We flew in from Tokyo at 11:30Pm. We had requested from the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit that a hotel car meet us. As we came out exit gate at the airport we turned right, saw the Sheraton representative waiting with a sign. As we had done this before, he recognized us and took one bag. The rep called up the car and we were off. It took exactly 40 minutes from the flight to the car. (Airport transfer by the hotel costs 2,200 baht. Besides providing comfortable transport from the hotel, it "waves the flag" that you are on the way and that you want the best. I would guess this helped with our upgrade (see below). It works for us -- you can always take a tuk-tuk back to the airport.)
Inside the car, the driver had cold water for us to drink and cold washcloths to cool our skin. Just before we reached the hotel, he called ahead to let them know that we were arriving. It is about a 30 minute ride from the airport to the hotel.
Check in was good, our folder was all set for us. Within five minutes we were off to our upgraded room, which I received as a Platinum member. We received a Grande Suite (one of the larger ones, Room 1202 to be exact). It had 1.5 baths, a large living room, a large bedroom with a sitting area, nice desk. The bathroom was equipped with all the goodies including a walk in-shower, separate tub, as well as a room for your clothing, bags and the safe. Overall very nice. The view was of a lake in the distance.
As a Platinum member and as a Grade Suite occupant we received the following: complimentary internet, two-hours of free drinks and snacks in "Living Room" bar area (there was no club lounge). Breakfast was provided in two locations and was excellent!! As well, we could have three pieces of wash the first day, complimentary coffee and other services on-call from the floor butler.
All in all an excellent stay. We love the location of the Sheraton when we want to be "downtown." Last year they added a walk to the Skytrain and to the Westin, as well as for the Little Lady Robersons department store.
The service is about as good as you can get. We found the food excellent. An added note is that you can join a hotel frequent guest club, The Grande Club, that will add to your stay.
Overall we felt the hotel was well worth it, within a reasonable cost. We received a Sheraton owner's discount of 10% over the rate on the SPG website.
