This is the most ill thought out Four Points hotel I have ever seen. There are some good ones out there, such as the one in Halifax and in Quebec City (although the location of that one is bizarre).
Built in a resort town, the Four Points is the only hotel to sit on the wrong side of the highway. It reminds me of a Travelodge. No thought or imagination was used in selecting a design for the lobby or the rooms. All rooms have a view of the highway and most face the parking lot. The rooms are decorated with standard drab furniture, although the standard Sweet Sleeper beds are comfortable. There is no deck or any place in the hotel in which you can step out to view the mountains and get some fresh air. There are no grounds to walk around on.
The restaurant on the first floor faces a fence, so even though this hotel is located in the beautiful Rockies, there is no view from the restaurant. They have installed a whirlpool, but incredibly, in addition to being a very cheap looking one, it faces the fence on one side and the highway on the other.
There appears to be only one person behind the front desk per shift. The food in the restaurant was actually nicely and tastefully prepared.
This hotel is a resasonable place to stop overnight while travelling through the Rockies (as I said, a standard Travelodge-type place to crash for the night), but is simply incapable of serving as a resort destination. Pity because there is a lot of competition in Canmore. It looks like they are relying partly on tour buses to fill up.
