This hotel is in the city of Bandung which is the capital of the province of West Java. Bandung is in the mountains so it is a little cooler than than Jakarta. This and the fact that is only around 2 hours away makes it a popular weekend get away. The hotel is in the upscale suburb of Dago which is in the hills overlooking the city. The hotel is a slightly larger version of the Sheraton Bandarlampung with the same basic lay-out and oper air lobby.
Check-in: Check in was very slow. Even though there was only one person before there was an almost 10 minute wait before I was attended to. When I finally was I was asked to leave the gold and platinum check-in area and go to the main section. I asked the clerk why she was working on her own and she said she wasn't that "her friend was having lunch at the back." At least this was an honest answer I guess.
When I asked about the availability of an upgrade I was told I had been been upgraded to a deluxe pool view room. As this is the hotels lowest category of room I guess I was out of luck.
The room: The first room I was shown to was located next to some sort of utility room and had the a constant low droning noise, (I think) from the air-con plant for the rooms on that floor. I returned to reception and after a 10 minute wait was shown to an identical non-SPG room which was minus the droning. Both rooms also get a lot of noise from the pool area but this was not too much of problem. The room itself was nice. The furnishings were in good condition, the sweet sleeper bed was very comfortable and there was a very large television. Note that all rooms in this hotel only have a shower.
The food: We ordered both dinner and breakfast through room service. Both meals were really great and delivered within about 20 minutes. The total cost of all 4 dishes was about US$20 which is on the expensive side for hotel food in Indonesia but it was really great quality.
Overall: I thought the hotel to be above average overall. The pool area and the gardens are very nice and beautifully maintained and the service in all areas (except reception) was also good. At almost US$90 the hotel is at the very top end of the hotel price scale in Indonesia (not including Bali) but as a category 1 hotel it was very good value for 2000 spg points.
