RussiaOct2006 - 43.jpg. By craigriggs.I have stayed at this hotel for months altogether.

It is a beautifully located property in Seoul, very near some nice sights. The service at the hotel is outstanding in every respect. Rooms are very beautiful, with a sort of contemporary Italian style of design. If you can get in the executive lounge, it is a very generous experience, with full breakfast every morning, hors d'oeuvres and unlimited alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks at night.

Nearby are two palaces, attendant museums, and some wonderful places to walk around. Right next door is the Lotte Department store, which has everything imaginable. A short taxi ride away is the Cultural Center, where they have regular shows of Korean dance and music, as well as occasional Broadway Shows.

The hotel has a shuttle to Itaewon, which is one of the central shopping districts. Myongdong Market is an easy walk, and Insadong (a sort of old town) is also nearby.

RussiaOct2006 - 02.jpg. By craigriggs. The concierge is a REAL concierge, and can arrange practically everything you need while you are there. I strongly recommend you chat her up...especially if you are staying on the executive level floor.

The fitness center is very good. It has all the basic workout machines, lots of treadmills, and a sauna area that is beyond belief. The hotel has a large and beautiful steam room, as well as a sauna and hot and cold pools.

Business center support is also first class, which can be a real help if you are actually there to do some work.

The only negative I would mention is that the rooms are a bit smaller than some Westins. But if I was staying in Seoul, I would always stay at this property...and did! I have to warn you that the Sheraton Walker Hill is far more removed than this property, and a bit seedy. The Shilla is supposed to be the best hotel, but it is in a bad location and the Korean staff does not really know what to do with non-Koreans there.

This is an expensive hotel, but in some respects you get what you pay for here. Very modern hotel, great beds (of course!) and overall decent service. The rooms that I've stayed in over the last year have had plasma TVs and a local cell phone to use. You can skip the exorbitant breakfast at the hotel and grab something closeby like a Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. The location is even pretty good.
