The Westin Pasadena is located just a few blocks walk from Old Town, where you will have access to a wide array of restaurants and shopping on Colorado Blvd. There are a few chain-type restaurants around the hotel itself, but better to make the trek to seek out real food. It is also very convenient to the Convention Center if that's where you'll be.
Last time I was in Pasadena, I stayed at the Sheraton, which seems to be an older property. The Westin is definitely much classier. It used to be the Doubletree, but has since been rebranded and renovated. I'll stay here again next time I'm in town. Take my room, for example, with its contemporary Westin design and Heavenly Bed. The TV was a regular TV, but with a flat screen. I was put on the SPG Preferred Floor with a great view. The rooms are somewhat small. The staff at the front desk informed me that there was no club lounge in the building. Not that it makes up for it, but every day I found a bottle of fresh water waiting for me in the room, compliments of the hotel.
The only problem I had at the hotel was with the bathtub/shower which didn't drain properly. Maybe it was because so much water was coming out of the Heavenly Showerheads? Who knows. The staff was unresponsive to me mentioning it (to both someone at the front desk on my way out the door and to a maid in the hallway) and it stayed semi-clogged for the duration of my stay. Other than that, they were friendly, but this lack of follow-through bothered me.
There is a small pool, but whenever I used it (twice) it was never crowded. Once I even had it all to myself. Next to the pool is a very complete fitness center looking out over the pool. There is also a beautiful courtyard outside the hotel just beyond the lobby, with pools of water and a garden to relax in. The brunch at the hotel is quite a spread, but be prepared to pay (over $30 per person) an excessive price. I ordered room service one evening and it arrived hot and in a timely manner, although the quality left something to be desired.
I self-parked my car every night for $6, which was reasonable, although valet parking is also an option. Overall, the Westin Pasadena is the best Starwood choice in town. It's a good hotel, with a few misses here and there.

I would agree with John that this is the best Starwood in the area. I have stayed at most of the SPG hotels in the L.A. and O.C. area and this was one of my favorites. I thought it was very clean and everything felt very new. I checked in late and left early in the morning so I can't say much about the staff. However, I thought the room was a pretty good size. I booked a workout room and had a brand new treadmill in the room. There was a seperate dressing room with closets and drawers which was a nice touch. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.
