Denver Tech Center's Center. Photo by jeco. After a big debacle at the airport, we found out that all the hotels in the near-region were booked full. I had, mistakently, booked a room for the wrong night. So, I whipped out my Starwood card and was able to redeem some points for the closest Starwood: the Sheraton Denver Tech Center. We arrived at the hotel around 10:30PM and were courteously checked-in and placed in a room on the Preferred Guest floor (not the Club floor, since I am only gold). There was free overnight parking around the hotel. The lobby was very modern with soothing wood and leather accents and dark tile floors. This is not your typical 1980s Sheraton. It was a good place to lounge and have a conversation... but maybe not at this hour of the night.

Since it was late, we couldn't tell if we had a good view or not, but I imagine we did. The room was contemporary, with fluffy duvets and thick pillows. Plugs were easily accessible from the desk, although we soon ran out -- two iPods, cell phones and laptops... we had to compromise. Sleep was sweet (on the Sweet Sleeper bed) and quiet too. The hotel was smaller than you might typically find in a Sheraton, but that was not a concern to us. Amenities in the bathroom were typical for Sheratons.

I stuck me head in the health club on the way out -- nothing very impressive in there. A few machines. It took us about only 30 minutes to get to the airport from the hotel, with no traffic on Saturday morning. There are a few restaurants in the area, and it's not too far from one of my favourite Italian places in Denver, Il Fornaio, right off of the Belleview exit on I-25.

If the downtown Starwoods are booked up or too expensive, consider the Sheraton Denver Tech Center as an alternative. It's only about 10-15 minutes from downtown. All in all, this is a great hotel that is either new or recently renovated. It's reminiscent of a Westin hotel.

I stayed 5 nights at the Sheraton DTC in the summer of '05. I had a horrible experience and will never go back. The staff was surly or incompetent, especially the front desk. The rooms were plain, I had to fight to get my upgrade and at the end of my stay they messed up my bill. The food at the restaurant was wildly overpriced as well. Although I am a loyal SPG member, I would not recommend this to any Starwood member.

The hotel is still something to avoid, if you can.

The rooms are small and worn out, but they have the Sweet Sleeper beds. The air condition is very noisy and the walls between the rooms are thin, and one can hear the neighbor sneezing etc. The Club Lounge closes really early in the evenings.

I'd recommend the nearby Four Points, which also have a Club Lounge, or the Sheraton Denver West.
