Le Meridien Munich. Photo by epjm99.Munich is great weather during the spring time, so I was happy to have landed here for a few days for work. I opted to stay over the weekend and move from the work hotel (some forgettable place) to Le Meridien where I could earn my blessed SPG points (and chalk up another review for Starwood Lobby)! Check-in was easy, if not pleasant thanks to typical German efficiency. She was very attentive to my needs and asked if I would be eating out and would I like to use the services of their concierge or if I wanted some passes for the metro. Very thoughtful. Overall, I could tell the hotel was new.

As a Gold member, I was placed in a nice junior suite with an LCD TV, beautiful bathroom (with a deep tub and separate shower) and a fantastic bed (in a separate room). The design was very modern with wood accents around the bed and TV. The amenities were Hermes brand, which is quite lovely. While I was out, the maid came by and did a turndown service, including chocolate and a flower on my pillow! At night, the room was quiet -- but you may want to request one not facing the train station to make it that way.

Le Meridien Munich. Photo by epjm99.I often have technology problems at hotels in Europe. For some reason, they decide to use really funky equipment. If you've ever stayed at the Park Hyatt in Paris, you know what I mean. At Le Meridien, the LCD TV was nice too look at, but a little clunky. Changing channels was slow and all of the additional features, like music and wake-up, were frustrating to get working. I eventually gave up. Internet access at the hotel was also pricey, but what do you expect (20 euros a day, or 8 euros an hour).

Le Meridien in Munich is right across from the rail transit station (Hauptbahnhof) which can whisk you to the cultural areas very quickly. It is in the historic district of the city. You can walk to "pedestrian" areas of the city quite easily, including the market. It was quite easy for me to leave the hotel and begin my tourist explorations of the city even though I had limited time. The staff at the front desk provided me with a map and easy-to-follow directions -- all with a smile! The airport bus also arrives here, which was helpful as I was flying out on Sunday. Another alternative is to take the train to the airport, which is also convenient.

Le Meridien Munich. Photo by epjm99.The the morning the buffet was extensive and thoughtfully planned. Service was excellent and attentive. I also spent a few hours in the bar one evening, quite a hip place to gather apparently. For a moment, I thought I was in a "low tone" W hotel or something.

This is a great hotel and definitely an upper 4-star experience in the city. If you can get a good price at the hotel, I definitely recommend you include breakfast! The buffet is not to be missed.

Wow, what a different experience than I just had! I stayed here over a Sat night and as a Platinum had no where near the wonderful stay as FLYWITHME. Yes, the hotel is very conviently located right across from the train, and when I checked in the staff was very friendly. Prior to arrival, I had check the availability of upgradable rooms/suites and found there were many, even though this was a Sat during Octoberfest. As my amenity I asked for the local gift, and they came back with a Munich Beer Stein. I asked about an upgrade (I'm Plat) and was told I had been given one. They then handed me the key & pointed out where the elevators were. My room # 362 was small and faced the inner courtyard. I called down to request a better room & was again told I had been already upgraded from a 'classic' to a 'deluxe' room (I was paying a corporate rate), and they felt my room would be quieter than an outside facing one. Furnishings were modern and as the original poster mentioned included a flatscreen tv. My bath toilettries were 'orange blossom'??. I went out to explore the city, and upon my return around 7pm, there was a staffer with a cart in the hall across from my room delivering bathrobes/turndown service & chocolates to various rooms (not mine). I called and asked about where I could find the robe in my room & was told only 'executive' rooms & above get that service, but if I really wanted turn down someone could come up in about an hour! (I declined). I also asked about ice, and was told there was a machine on my floor (but no ice buckets-- just plastic cups found next to the ice machine). Also be wary of the mini bar, as it is one of those electronic/automatic ones. I opened it to see if the ice bucket was there & at check out, they recorded that I had taken an item out-- I didn't and they adjusted the charge. I had a drink at the downstairs bar, and found it to be very pleasant. The next day at check out, I found coffee to go set out in the lobby (no coffee machine in the room). Check out was efficient and overall, I would only return for the Starpoints & its proximity to the train. I do prefer this style of modern hotel and had been looking forward to my stay, but unfortunately I was dissapointed.
Here are some pics of my room & the hotel:
